With a storied history dating back to the 1700s, Phoenixville has experienced many eras of change which has shaped it into what it is today. It started as a mill town called Manavon and eventually became known as Phoenixville in 1849 – named after Phoenix Iron Company, the area’s biggest employer at the time.

Fast forward to today, Phoenixville is now one of Pennsylvania’s most unique and diverse main streets. When you stroll down Bridge Street, you’ll come across small shops, theaters, cafes, restaurants, bars, and much more.

Entertainment in Phoenixville

Although Phoenixville is full of excellent dining and drinking options, that’s not all there is to do around Bridge Street. There are beautiful trails to hike, a thriving art community to engage with, and much more excitement to join in on.

See a concert, catch a movie, or attend Blobfest at the Colonial Theater.

Built in 1901, the Colonial Theater serves as one of the area’s greatest attractions. This historic theater hosts live concerts, spotlights local artists, screens new and old movies, and hosts great festivals. For those who have seen the 1958 sci-fi movie “The Blob,” the theater might look familiar to you. It was featured in a pivotal scene when the creature attacks the town and moviegoers flee the theater. Every year, Phoenixville and the Colonial Theater host “Blobfest” to commemorate the movie and its cultural impact.

For those who love good hiking, fishing, or picnicking, the Schuylkill River Trail is perfect for you. There are several trailheads not far from Bridge Street where you can begin your adventure. Here you can find hiking paths as well as great spots to sit down and enjoy the beautiful scenery. You can also check out Black Rock Sanctuary to hike the 119 acres of wetlands, woodlands, and meadows and see local wildlife.

If you’re into the local art scene, you can see a show or volunteer at the Forge Theater. This theater brings high-quality, year-round live theatrical entertainment to the Phoenixville community.

There is a lot about Phoenixville that makes it stand out from other towns. One prime example is the yearly Firebird Festival held to celebrate local arts and culture through the burning of a 20-foot-tall wooden phoenix. For weeks before the festival, community members gather to help build the bird, no matter their skill level. This unique festival is just one of the many events held in Phoenixville every year.
